Project transfer activities
Several activities for transfer of results materialised during the last semester of the project: final project conference and presentation of the legal recommendation on bulky waste; Regional training sessions for knowledge transfer; Interactive tool and e-learning modules on bulky waste management.
In parallel to the delivery of concrete
technical and technological results, throughout the project partners have
engaged in activities aiming to make these outputs known and available to
relevant stakeholders. Different dissemination and training activities took
place with the specific purpose to transfer the knowledge gained in the project
to different groups of potential users (policy-makers, municipalities, and
industries). Several of these activities materialised during the last semester
of the project:
Final
project conference and presentation of the legal recommendations on bulky waste
The main results of URBANREC were presented
during the final project conference addressing both policy and technical
dimensions of bulky waste management in urban areas. It took place in Brussels
on 6 – 7 November 2019 and was divided in two parts.
The first part was hosted at the European
Parliament by Greek MEP Mrs Maria Spyraki and centred on a policy dialogue of
existing opportunities and barriers for management of bulky waste items. This
was also the place where the legal recommendations to improve the European
legislation addressing bulky waste put forward by the URBANREC consortium were
discussed. These recommendations were the result of intense efforts within a
dedicated legal working group, initiated and coordinated by the partner ACR+,
and involving project partners, representatives from European institutions,
federations of producers and recyclers, and NGOs. The 15 recommendations
proposed are detailed in a guide on bulky waste management system at EU level.
The second part of the conference included
presentations by the European Commission on research and competitiveness for
the circular economy in cities. Afterwards project partners showed their key
technical achievements and pilot activities in various territories and how
these can contribute to a circular economy. During the whole afternoon session,
a permanent exhibition area will set out stands with regional and technological
demonstrators from URBANREC and posters on selected H2020 projects.
On 7 November 2019, a practical workshop
for local and regional authorities was organised by ACR+ aiming to share good
practices from the project and support to improve local strategies regarding
non-packaging plastics and non-clothing textiles. Two parallel sessions – on
re-use and on recycling of these waste streams – allowed participants to
reflect on the results of the URBANREC project and on how to integrate relevant
elements into their roadmaps for local implementation.

conference can be found on: http://acrplus.org/en/events/past-events/event/417-circular-economy-in-cities-urbanrec-final-conference

Regional
training sessions for knowledge transfer
With
this in mind, four regional training sessions have been organised in the
framework of the URBANREC project. The trainings were delivered by relevant
project partners identified in the course of the project. During the URBANREC
meeting in Germany on 20-21 November 2018, ACR+ had delivered a training to
regional and local partners who have to implement the regional training
sessions to their local stakeholders. ACR+ provided guidance and material to
support the implementation of the trainings.
The four training sessions
were the following:
Interactive
tool and e-learning modules on bulky waste management
In order to
help end-users understand the results of the URBANREC project and how these
could be useful in practice, the project partners have developed a web-based
interactive tool. This tool is targeting in particular public authorities,
waste managers, and industry. It shows them in an easy way how to improve
current bulky waste situation including some changes from the beginning to the
end of the bulky waste management.
The
interactive tool includes the following elements:
The fully operational tool will be
accessible at the end of November at: https://urbanrec-project.eu/tool.html
