The Association of Cities and Regions for
sustainable Resource management – or ACR+ in short – is an international
network of cities and regions sharing
the aim of promoting a sustainable resource management and accelerating the
transition towards a circular economy on their territories and beyond.
Created in 1994, ACR+ counts with more than 100 members across 25 countries in
Europe – mainly public authority at local and regional level, but also other
key players in the field of material resource management such as NGOs, academic
institutions, consultancy or private organisations. To strengthen the knowledge
and capacities of the network and push forward innovative practices in the
field of material resource management, ACR+ facilitates the exchange of
experiences between members while also sharing technical and policy information
– topics covered include governance, legal and economic instruments,
operational schemes as well as awareness raising and education. ACR+ is also
involved in several projects at European level and in the Mediterranean region,
in cooperation with its members.
In the URBANREC project, ACR+ was leading
the Legal Working Group (LWG) and the legal recommendations on bulky waste
management in Europe. ACR+ also developed the guide for the implementation of
URBANREC bulky waste management system at European level, integrating the
knowledge and results generated during the project. Finally, ACR+ was
coordinating the dissemination activities of the partners.
