IYTE is a Turkish state university located in Izmir. It offers higher education in English and carries out research in the fields of science and technology. It is currently ranked third among the ten recognized research universities in the country.

The ?zmir Institute of Technology (IZTECH)
or in Turkish “?zmir Yüksek Teknoloji Enstitüsü” abbreviated as IYTE is a
Turkish state university established in 1992 to offer higher education and
carry out research in the fields of science and technology. As an institute of
technology, its difference from the other universities in the country is being
research-oriented and keeping the ratio of undergraduate to graduate students
to a relatively low level which is currently about 1.4. Language of instruction
is 100% English. The campus is located in the seaside town of Urla, Izmir. IYTE
is composed of Engineering, Science and Architecture Schools with 18
undergraduate programs. The graduate school has 24 masters and 19 PhD programs.
IYTE has a total of about 6000 students. A technology park is located within
the campus housing about 150 tech companies where students may involve in
innovative projects for a hands-on experience and start up their own companies.
IYTE is currently ranked third among the ten recognized research universities
in the country. It also ranks at the top on student satisfaction and in the top
three on research output.

In the URBANREC project IYTE had
responsibilities in almost all work packages; however, its main role was the
formulation of wood-composites provided by VANHEEDE. The lab-scale formulation
lead to demonstration of industrial scale production of boxes and table/chair
legs. IYTE also provided important academic support to BORNOVA especially in
technical and training activities. IYTE provided trainings during sessions
organised by BORNOVA. In addition, IYTE played a major role in terms of
dissemination activities on the territory of Turkey. It co-managed the Turkish
version of the project website www.urbanrec-tr.org,
and organised a number of events, including a workshop to local authorities in
the Province of Izmir, and an international conference targeted to all involved
stakeholders in the country. The conference included a workshop in order to
present the results obtained in the four URBANREC regions.
