Aiju en colaboración con Eggnovo y los otros socios del proyecto Eco-SHELL pretenden valorizar los dos subproductos de la cáscara del huevo, la membrana y la cáscara. Además se pretende facilitar la primera entrada en el mercado Europeo de estas nuevas materias primas. Este artículo se centra en la investigación llevada a cabo con el carbonato cálcico procedente de la cáscara de huevo, Ovocet®, dentro del sector de los plásticos. Se presentan los resultados obtenidos a modo comparativo de la caracterización de varias formulaciones de polietileno de alta densidad (HDPE), con Ovocet®, con un carbonato de cantera y en algunas se ha empleado un agente compatibilizante como es el polietileno injertado con anhídrido maleico (PE-g-MAH). Los resultados obtenidos muestran que las formulaciones obtenidas a partir del nuevo carbonato cálcico, Ovocet®, siguen los mismos patrones de comportamiento que las obtenidas con el carbonato de cantera; pero en algunos casos se mejoran las propiedades finales para un mismo porcentaje de carga.

Aiju, in collaboration with Eggnovo and other partners of project Eco-SHELL aim to give value to the two products resulting from eggshell: the membrane and the shell. In addition, they aim to facilitate the first entry in the European market of these new raw materials. This article focuses on the research carried out with calcium carbonate from eggshell, Ovocet®, within the plastics sector. The results obtained in a comparative way about the characterisation of several formulations of high density polyethylene (HDPE), with Ovocet ® and a quarry carbonate, have been presented; for some of them, a compatibilising agent has been used, such as polyethylene grafted with maleic anhydride (PE-g-MAH). The results show that the formulations obtained from the new calcium carbonate, Ovocet ®, follow the same patterns of behaviour than those obtained with quarry carbonate; but in some cases, the final properties, for the same loading percentage, are improved.
