Legal Working Group on bulky waste

One of project’s objectives is to come up with recommendations for a draft European legislation addressing bulky waste. For this ACR+ (BE) has set up and will animate a Working Group on Legal issues.

The Working group involves representatives of local and regional authorities, EU institutions, federations of producers and recyclers and NGOs. Topics for discussion will include for instance a harmonised definition for bulky waste, sorting requirements and specific target for reuse and preparing for reuse, end of waste criteria, economic instruments and incentives, extended producer’s responsibility schemes, etc.

The first meeting of the Legal Working Group took place in early November 2016. It included a presentation of the project and of the working group, discussions about definitions and expectations of the participants, and definition of next steps. The participants of the meeting agreed of the importance to preserve the value of products and materials contained in bulky waste in order to fulfill the significant potential of bulky waste for reuse and recycling.

The Working Group’s next meeting is scheduled for the beginning of 2017.
