The URBANREC Legal Working Group met for
the fourth time in April 2019 to discuss draft recommendations for a European
legislation addressing bulky waste. The draft recommendations address issues
like a harmonised definition of bulky waste, separation of bulky waste,
eco-design of bulky products, support to reuse, use of economic instruments,
etc. These legal recommendations will be finalised after approval by the
URBANREC consortium and will be presented to the European institutions during
the project’s final conference in Brussels held in November 2019.
The draft recommendations for a European
legislation addressing bulky waste are the result of discussions held within a
working group on legal issues set within URBANREC and coordinated by ACR+. The
group involves several URBANREC partners as well as representatives of various
groups like local and regional authorities, EU institutions, federations of
producers and recyclers and NGOs. The Legal Working Group met previously to
discuss the project definition and scope, the issue of reuse and the uptake of
recycled plastics. Following the discussions of the group and between URBANREC
partners, ACR+ proposed draft recommendations during the fourth meeting of the
Legal Working Group held in April 2019. The meeting was followed by a survey
aiming at providing additional feedback on the proposed recommendations.
